Silk Caring Instructions

Laundry Care for Silk Products

We are proud to introduce the softest organic silk essentials that are gentle for your skin and the earth. Accordingly, the silk will last a long time if properly cared for. Kindly note all our products are pre-washed, so you can get cozy straight away.

SUN CURING

It is the best way (low maintenance also) to clean your silk blanket/comforter/quilt/coverlet at home, even you haven’t done anything in particular to dirty, you can do it once every 2-3 months. This technique dries up any body oils that your blanket may have soaked up and you can do it simply easily at home without damaging it. Since there are no harsh chemicals to harden the silk or viscous spin cycles to snag the thread, your silk comforter stays in pristine condition. Steps to follow:
1. Cover you blanket with a duvet cover, tarp or old sheet to protect it from the dirt, direct sunlight and other debris outside.
2. Lay flat on the ground in direct sunlight for 45 mins (less than 1 hour)
3. Flip your comforter over, recover it and lay it in the sun for an additional hour.
Note: DO NOT EXPOSE THE SILK DIRECTLY TO THE SUNLIGHT as this will weaken the natural shiny texture of the silk

SPOT WASHING

What if you spill a drink or food onto your bedding? Immediately follow those steps:
1. Soak a sponge in warm, mild soapy water. NO STRONG DETERGENTS please. We suggest using the natural detergent that you can easily make at home
2. Wring the sponge out in the sink so most of the water is gone. It should be damp, but not dripping.
3. Gently dab the stained area with the sponge.
4. Let it air dry.
5. Repeat or add some mild shampoo or special silk detergent until stain is removed.
DO NOT SOAK THE SILK PRODUCTS MORE THAN 15 MINS IN WATER.
USE A STEAMER IF YOU WANT TO DRY
DON’T TOSS INTO THE DRYER AS THE SILK TEXTURE WILL HARDEN OR TEAR.

PROFESSIONAL CLEANING

If your silk bedding needs a deep clean, then you need to take it to a professional. DRY CLEANING IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Don’t try to wash silk yourself if you don’t know how.

MACHINE WASHABLE

WASHABLE silk blanket can be machine washed and dried are now available They are very convenient for routine care. Just put the silk blanket in the washing bag, set a gentle cycle or silk setting and use neutral detergent for silk.

* How to make Natural Detergent at Home:

We encourage using a baking soda and vinegar mixture as a mild bleach-like alternative. Start by adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to the wash cycle. Next, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle. These two ingredients can help brighten white fabrics. Avoid combining them, as this causes a chemical reaction. Use with care on light or white fabrics only. Kindly note this method could cause fading on dark colors.
