Luala Washable Silk Throw and Luala Eco Dryer Balls in washing machine

If washable silk can be done easily at home?

One of the common myths about silk is that it needs to be dry cleaned NO NO NO

Luala Silk beddings and silk clothing can be washed and dried right from the comfort of your own home.  Silk is actually one of nature's strongest fibers and can be machine washed separately or with other baby products. I have been washing and drying my hand quilted bedspread for almost 4 years and they still look beautiful. In my opinion, washable silk actually looks even more beautiful than brand new. It starts to look a bit more matte but the hand feel remains smooth and soft!

Now let's talk details.  I recommend using a gentle detergent, whatever you are currently using for baby is totally fine.  As for machine cycle, I set the delicate cycle on my washer because I want them to last.  If you don't have a specific delicate setting, just select cold - warm water temperature and a medium rinse speed.  Then throw them right into the drier on a low-medium heat setting.  Use Luala Eco Dryer Balls instead of fabric softener to save your electricity bills and become environment friendly users

There you have it... the mystery of washable silk revealed!

Hang on, there is one more secret to clean silk at home and keep your favorite silk quilt or silk duvet always in the best shape

You also can make Natural Detergent at Home by using a baking soda and vinegar mixture as a mild bleach-like alternative. Start by adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to the wash cycle. Next, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle. These two ingredients can help brighten white fabrics. Avoid combining them, as this causes a chemical reaction. Use with care on light or white fabrics only. Kindly note this method could cause fading on dark colors.

Washable Silk Duvet, Silk Comforter and Oversize silk bedding set

Good news, silk duvet, silk comforter and even oversize silk bedding products are now washable. Very convenient right? Since It is such an investment to buy a set of silk duvet or silk comforter and machine washing won't not necessary,  I have some other alternative ways to clean the silk at home  and hep your favourite silk bedding items will stay lifetime with you.

SUN CURING

One of the easiest way you can keep the blanket always clean and odor free ( even you haven’t done anything in particular to dirty) you can do SUN CURING once every 2-3 months. This technique dries up any body oils that your blanket may have soaked up and you can do it simply easily at home without damaging it. Since there are no harsh chemicals to harden the silk or viscous spin cycles to snag the thread, your silk comforter stays in pristine condition.

Simple steps to follow:

1. Cover you silk blanket with a duvet cover, tarp or old silk sheet to protect it from the dirt, direct sunlight and other debris outside.
2. Lay flat on the ground in direct sunlight for 45 mins (less than 1 hour)
3. Flip your comforter over, recover it and lay it in the sun for an additional hour.
Note: DO NOT EXPOSE THE SILK DIRECTLY TO THE SUNLIGHT as this will weaken the natural shiny texture of the silk

SPOT WASHING

What if you spill a drink or food onto your bedding? Immediately follow those steps:
1. Soak a sponge in warm, mild soapy water. NO STRONG DETERGENTS please. We suggest using the natural detergent that you can easily make at home
2. Wring the sponge out in the sink so most of the water is gone. It should be damp, but not dripping.
3. Gently dab the stained area with the sponge.
4. Let it air dry.
5. Repeat or add some mild shampoo or special silk detergent until stain is removed.
DO NOT SOAK THE SILK PRODUCTS MORE THAN 15 MINS IN WATER.
USE A STEAMER IF YOU WANT TO DRY
DON’T TOSS INTO THE DRYER AS THE SILK TEXTURE WILL HARDEN OR TEAR.
